Every minute we send 204 million emails, generate 1.8 million Facebook likes, send 278 thousand tweets, and upload 200 thousand photos to Facebook, and that doesn’t even count, for example, the data the stock market or police body cameras generate. At the same time the number of devices that we connect to the Internet will rise from about 13 billion today to 50 billion by 2020. In fact, the Internet of Things is on its way to becoming the next technological revolution. How we conceptualize and manage the relationship between Big Data and the IOT will continue to challenge us in the next decade. It’s time we give this serious thought and discussion.
