The relationship between faculty and IT staff is critical to the successful delivery of IT services and support on campus. A close relationship can better both the service catalog and the quality of support provided, while an indifferent or acrimonious one can severely impede these efforts. This session will discuss ways that IT departments can partner with faculty both inside and outside of the faculty governance structure to provide the best possible service. Some tools that will be discussed include a faculty oversight committee, surveys, faculty special interest groups/focus groups, and involvement in testing of new systems. We’ll discuss the benefits and challenges of the interaction from both the faculty and the IT perspectives, as well as some of the new IT options and support initiatives that we’ve implemented as a result of our increased communication with faculty.
